My Impossible Dream

Appears on:
Everything Picture

Oh God an unrequited love again
As if there's not enough
There's not enough
The plane's crashlanding back to earth again
And you're the pilot of my
Im-poss-ible Dream

Oh what a drag
Beautiful slags
Merely a knack
You're too bloody good for those
You never know
You could have had me
Totally free
Love guaranteed
Total fucking misery

All my words
Heaven bound
They don't reach where your heart is

("Are you thinking what I'm thinking?")

It's just like Beauty and the Beast here
It's brought to you by electricity
The host he wants your time not mine
Sometimes it seems like it's
Just a dream away

Oh what a drag
Beautiful slags
Merely a knack
You're too bloody good for those
You never know
You could have had me
Totally free
Love guaranteed
Total fucking misery

All my words (yeah)
Heaven bound
They don't reach where your heart is

Light the fuse of your chemical blues
And it's one more night lonely
Baby's happy in your cradle
Rock this boy to sleep

Now and again
You need a friend
Dial it again
Maybe she could catch your throes
You never know
Light us a fag
Have you had enough shags?
She's on the rag
Grinning like a wanking Jap

Oh my word
Will you fall from grace
(If you just)
Hold my hand
Will you kiss my face?
(Then I'll cry)
I'll hit home where I always go
(All the time)
I'll hit home where my heart is.

Advert samples, including

"Elaine Paige"
"20% of all mince pies"
"Come on mate give yourself up, you're surrounded"
"Explore your world, explore your specially made vegetables (!?)"
"We're not just a band, we're a musical community"
"Maybe, just maybe"

The samples are from adverts on late at night. Well, most of them. The NME described this as having "All of the bluster but none of the tune." Rather unjustifiably. It is about watching TV late at night and seeing all the couples in the adverts, whilst you are single. Essentially, it's railing against society's conformist attitude towards relationships... and feeling very depressed about it.
